Alicia van Thiel, American, earned a Master of Science in Education degree from The City College of New York, a Bachelor of Arts degree in art history from Hunter College, and attended the Fashion Institute of Technology receiving a degree in apparel design prior to her education research studies. She was awarded a teaching fellowship and has taught in the United States and in China focusing on child development and Arts in education research. In her prior career, she was a textile designer and taught at the Parsons School of Design. Alicia studied drawing, painting, and sculpture at The Art Students League of New York, classical training in drawing and painting at The Water Street Atelier, and copied master works at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She continued her traditional academic studies at The Florence Academy of Art’s workshop in portrait painting and sculpture in Italy. Alicia continues her education research in post-graduate study at the School of Education at Johns Hopkins University. She currently lives in Beijing with her husband and daughter.
